Hi everyone!

In my last post, I mentioned that I had chosen my next quilt pattern and that I would talk about it later. Well, today I'm going to give you a peek at what I'm working on.

This is a pattern that I've done before and that I love. The construction is easy and the pattern has the ability to take on completely different personalities depending on the fabrics and size of the blocks that you choose.

Have you guessed it yet?

It's the Plus quilt pattern of course. And this time I went BIG. And pink.

Here is a picture of the fabrics that I choose and the squares cut out. I cut 7" squares from 18 fat quarters and binding strips from a 1/2 yard of fabric that I picked up. (the binding strips are on the far right side of the picture.)

I was happy with my choices until I put the blocks up on the design board and after looking at it for a day I decided I didn't like the blue/pink fabric. So I found more pink fat quarters (yes I had to go to the store to buy a few more.) And here is what I picked.

Plus one other fabric that I also took a picture of but for some reason my phone lost.

Here is a picture of all the blocks on the design wall in the final pattern.

And here are a couple of pictures of some of the sewed together blocks.

Hopefully, I'll have the quilt top all sewn together soon and will start on the quilting next week. I don't think I'm going to be using the binding strips that I already cut out. Now that there aren't any blues in the quilt I might use a pink fabric. But I'm not sure yet. I guess you'll have to wait and see.

Before I go I wanted to show you what I did last weekend that had nothing to do with quilting. My husband and I went to the Denver Zoo on Saturday and I took some photos of our visit.

This flower is the reason I picked pinks for my quilt.

I was taking pictures of just the flowers and my husband was laughing at me because everyone else was taking pictures of the animals. Oh well. What can I say...the flowers were more colorful, until the birds. And of course, who could pass up pictures of the lions. (Lions and tigers and bears...oh my!)

Well, that's it for now. Thank you for stopping by. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you next time.

Calling Card Quilt Finish

Hi everyone!

My quilting hiatus is over. I finished most of the spring cleaning that I had planned on doing last week.  I still have a few things that I want to do but I couldn't stand another day without playing with fabric so yesterday I pulled some fabric for my next quilt. 😊

But more about that in my next post. Today I wanted to share with you the quilt I was working on before the hiatus. The pattern is called Calling Card which you can find here.

I've named the quilt Calling All Batiks. And here are some photos of it.

This quilt is made up of 10" squares. The pattern calls for a layer cake but instead, I used fat quarters and I'm glad that I did because I made a couple of cutting errors but since I had the extra fabric I was able to get the correct number of strips needed without an emergency run to the store.

Fabrics used.
Back of the quilt.

So in case you forgot, the fabrics used were mostly batik fat quarters that I got at JoAnn's and also a few batiks that I had in my stash leftover from another batik quilt. The backing is a black striped duvet cover I found at Ikea in the clearance bin.

All in all, I made 49 blocks for a 7 x 7 layout and I used 26 FQ's. The scrappy binding is from a batik jelly roll that I had that I trimmed down to 2 1/4 to get rid of the pinked edges.

The quilting is a diagonal grid which is spaced 5" apart. I used gray thread for both the needle and the bobbin.

Well, I think that's about it. I hope you enjoy the pictures and if you're thinking of making this quilt pattern I will say that it was very easy to put together and I will probably be using it again.

I'll probably be posting later on this week so until then thanks for stopping by.

Calling Card Update

Hey guys...

Happy Saturday!

I've spent this week working on the Calling Card quilt, which I've named "Calling All Batiks". This quilt has gone together fairly quickly. I'm already hand sewing the binding on and should be finished in a couple of days and will be sharing lots of photos with you next week.

In the meantime, I took a couple of pictures to show you what I've done so far.

I forgot to take a picture of the pieced blocks so this is a close up of a block.

Close up of the quilting.

I have a few ideas for my next quilt but haven't decided on anything yet. So I'm going to take a week off from quilting and work on some spring cleaning. (Not as much fun as quilting but definitely needed.)

So until next time, have a wonderful weekend!

Target Practice Finish

Happy Mother's Day!!!

I hope you all have had a great weekend and are spending today celebrating the special women in your lives.

Today I'm sharing my Target Practice quilt.  Yes...it is finally finished and I couldn't be happier. It was a challenge but as most challenges go...it was totally worth the effort.

I took a bunch of photos. So here we go...

The quilt has 36 blocks each finished at 10".
The quilting design is stitch-in-the-ditch and on the border, I stitched triangles (mostly successfully).

First attempt at a quilt swirl.

The arrows are made up of 2 1/2" strips from my stash and the white background fabric, as well as the backing, are all from thrift store sheets.  The border and binding are from JoAnn's. The overall size of the quilt is 66" x 66".

Do you see my Mother's Day card?

Target Practice on my design wall.

Love how the quilting shows on the back.

Close up of the quilting.

The label is wrong...it should have said May 2019 but the quilting
took longer than expected and I didn't think to change it soon enough.

So there you have it. Until next time...

This Week in My Quilting Loft

Hi everyone! Happy Friday!

Just wanted to let you all know that I finally finished the quilting on Target Practice. It took me three days and it was actually very easy once I figured out what I wanted to do. As I mentioned in my last post, I decided on stitch-in-the-ditch around the arrow blocks and it turned out pretty good.

This is a picture of the quilting from the back of the center of the quilt. I really like the way the quilting shows up.

I also quilted the border. I don't have a picture of that but it took me two days to quilt that because the first time I didn't like the way it looked and once again had to take my seam ripper to it. But once I figured out what I wanted it went pretty easy.

The only thing I have left to do is the binding. I've already machine stitched it to the front and now just have to hand sew it to the back of the quilt.

Which means on Monday I can start my next quilt. WooHoo!!!   I love starting a new quilt.  I think that's my favorite part of the whole quilting process.

I mentioned in my last post that my next quilt is a pattern called Calling Card. I was able to take a picture of it from the Bluprint website.

Here's the fabric that I will be using.

Here is all my fabric cut into strips and ready for piecing. The pattern has instructions to make a throw, twin or queen size quilt. I'm making the throw size quilt that is supposed to finish at    60" x 68". The pattern calls for two borders that combined equals 5" but instead of doing that I think I'm just going to add additional blocks to it. We'll see what happens though.

So that's what's been going on in my quilting loft this week.

Thanks for stopping by.  I should have some blocks to share next week and possibly the finished Target Practice quilt.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and Happy Cinco de Mayo!!
