The Pathway Quilt

 Hi everyone!

Today I'm sharing my latest quilt finish. It's called Pathway and was made for my best friend's first grandchild. She picked the fabric and the pattern and even helped make it.

The fabric that my friend chose is very colorful and vibrant. It's an Australian Aboriginal design called Dreamtime from M&S Textiles. We brought the 10 pack (layer cake) in Multi for the main fabric and a roll (jelly roll) in Red for the binding.

The pattern that she chose is Cobblestone Street by Robert Kaufman Fabric. It's a free pattern and is super easy to make - except for the bias edges. 😬 But I put a border on it, which seemed to help the wavy edges.

Photo time...

For the quilting, we chose super simple straight lines about 4 inches apart. As you can see from the photo, there is some puckering on the back. As this quilt is for a child, I didn't fret too much about it. "Done is better than perfect."  As usual, the backing is a thrift store sheet.

Oh well, that's it for now. I'll have another quilt to show off in the next week or so. It's another Plus quilt, but this one is different than any other plus quilt I've done, so I'm really excited to show it off when it's done.

The Catch Up Post

Hi everyone and Happy 4th of July!!

I can't believe how much time has passed since I last posted anything. Where has the time gone?

Several times during this absence, I thought, "I need to do a blog post." and then something comes up, and I find a week or more has passed.

But during the time away from my blog, I have been doing a lot of quilting, and I have a few pictures to prove it.

First up...

This is a quilt top I'm working on that still needs to be finished. (I had to put it aside to work on two quilts that need to be finished by the end of this month.)

This is called Lemon Fizz, and you get it as a free pattern when you buy the Spring Brook Jolly Bar from the Fat Quarter Shop. I also have the Spring Brook Fat Quarter Bundle and Bella Solid Coordinates. I haven't decided what I'm doing with the Fat Quarters yet.

Hopefully, I will be able to get this finish within the next couple of months.

Second...

Is a finished quilt for the first grandchild of my best friend. The baby boy is due at the end of this month.

I love how bright and cheerful it is. When I was deciding on which fabrics to use, the soon-to-be parents posted a mural they had made for the baby's room, and I immediately knew what I wanted to use. The fabric is KimberBell Basics Kim's Picks Summer 21.

The pattern is called Fat Quarter Shuffle from CluckCluckSew. This is a super easy pattern that came together really fast. I think it took me two weeks to complete it. (Not including hand sewing the binding.)

And third...

Is another quilt that I don't have any pictures of yet. But I'm helping the happy grandmother make a quilt, and it's taking a lot longer than I thought it would. She will be flying out to see the new family during the 2nd week of August, so we still have some time to get it done. So more pictures to come.

Well, that's what I've been working on.

Star Petals - A Finished Quilt

Hi everyone!

I have a new quilt to show you, Star Petals from Scrap-Basket Bounty.

In my last post, I showed you the finished quilt top on my design wall and, I said that there was a mistake. Did you find it? Well, the mistake was one of the blocks was turned the wrong way. Luckily it was a quick fix. 

I LOVE THIS QUILT!!!

I know I say that about all my quilts, but this one makes me really happy. I love the scrappiness of it. And the quilting.

The blocks were a bit time-consuming to make, but the quilt was pretty quick to assemble (other than my little mistake).

 

The backing was made from leftover backings from other quilts.

 

For the quilting, I just did straight lines radiating from the center of the quilt. I think it came out really well.

All the print fabrics are from my stash. I had to go out to my local quilt shop for most of the low-volume fabrics because I don't have a lot of that in my stash. I think I will start working to build that part of my stash since I want to make more scrappy quilts.

What I'm Working On

Hi everyone!

Have you seen the quilting book Scrap-Basket Bounty by Kim Brackett? If not, you should. I love this book. 😍❤ It's packed with 16 scrappy quilts that are super easy to make and will definitely put a dent in your scrap stash. Not only are there 16 quilts, but each pattern includes two additional block arrangements. 

I started with the Star Petals pattern, but I'm sure I will be making all of them because they are all fabulous.

Today I'm sharing the quilt top with you.

             

No. I haven't made two quilts, but there's a mistake in one of these pictures. Can you find it? 

Luckily, I was able to find it and correct it without too much hassle.

I started quilting it yesterday, so hopefully, I'll be back soon to share lots of pictures of the finished quilt with you.

A Sweet Heart Quilt

Hi everyone!

I can't believe it's been more than a month since I last posted. Wow, how time flies. But I'm back today to share a quilt with you.

This quilt is a Valentine's Day quilt that I finished in March. For the pattern, I used Big Love Quilt by Modern Handcraft, which you can find here. It's a super easy quilt to make. It's made up of large half-square triangles and, I love how it came out.

All the fabrics that I used.

You can't tell but, the backing is a very light pink.

Our dog Rocko wanted to be in the picture.

I had a lot of fun picking out the fabrics. They are all from JoAnn's and Walmart. The backing, as usual, is a thrift store sheet. The quilting is my usual stitch in the ditch of all the seams. Super easy. And I sewed the binding on by machine. 

The finished quilt is 54″ x 62″.

Since it wasn't finished for Valentine's Day, I guess I have to wait until next year to display it in my house. Oh well.

A Fish Tale - A Completed Quilt

 Hi everyone!

I have a new quilt to share with you today. It's called A Fish Tale and is a gift for a new baby boy coming soon. His parents are friends of my son and, this is actually the second quilt I made for them. The first quilt was done in 2016 for their first child, a little girl. I used the same pattern, Fast Four Patch Quilt by Diary of a Quilter, for both. She has a great tutorial which you can find here.

Now on to pictures…

I started this quilt on 02/05/2021 and was finished on 02/15/2021, so it is truly a fast quilt to make. The quilt finished at 47" x 55". The pattern has you layout the quilt blocks into seven rows of five blocks each, but I used six blocks to make it a little wider.

I had no idea what fabrics I was going to use for this quilt but, I found this fish fabric at JoAnn's and fell in love with it. I knew that it would be my focus print.

The backing and binding are from a thrift store sheet, and the quilting is my usual (and favorite) diagonal grid.

And here are pictures of the first one that I made.

1st Finish of 2021 - It's A String Thing

Hi everyone!

I finally finished my string quilt and, I love it. Do I say that about all my quilts? Yeah, I think I do, but that's a good thing. Right?

It turned out better than I had hoped, and I plan on keeping this one for myself. I have lots more strings left in the stash, so I'm sure I will be making another one soon.

This is the quilt top on the design wall. I wanted this quilt to be on point because I liked how the blocks looked. But I didn't want to make corner setting triangles or side-setting triangles, so instead, I whacked off the hanging triangles. I must admit, I started to second guess myself after the first triangle was trimmed. But at that point, there was no going back. 

I really like how the border, binding, and flange came out. The border is 2 inches and is not quilted.  For the flange, I cut 1-inch strips and sewed them together just like binding. Then I sewed them to the quilt before adding the binding.

The quilt finished at 71" x 71".

As usual, the backing is a thrift store sheet. For the quilting, I stitched in the ditch vertically and horizontally each block. Super simple but I love how it looks on the back.

The string blocks are made with a fabric foundation. I read a lot of blog posts where people said using a foundation made the quilt heavy, so instead of using batting, they just used flannel or fleece.  I didn't have enough of either and didn't want to buy any, so I used batting anyway. I weighed mine after it was finished, and it only weighed 4 pounds. I personally didn't see any difference between it and my other quilts of the same size. But to each his own.
