Today I'm sharing my latest quilt that I finished last week. As many of you know, I love to find sheets at thrift stores and use them in my quilts. Sometimes I find old quilts at thrift stores too and I take them apart to use the fabric in new quilts.
Last year while thrifting, I brought a Pottery Barn Kids quilt for $7.00. I had no idea what I was going to do with it but I loved the colors. The quilt was ripped in places and definitely had been well-loved.
When I found out a friend of ours was having a baby boy I knew exactly what I would use to make them a quilt.
So I spent a few days taking it apart and trying to figure out exactly what I was going to do with it. Once I had it all separated - quilt top, quilt back and binding - I decided on cutting the quilt top into 12.5" blocks. Once I did that, I then cut the blocks apart into 3 pieces: 6.5" x 12.5" and 4.5" x 6.5". I didn't think I had enough fabric so I added some leftover plaid fabric from my Menswear quilt and I cut those up also. Then I sewed everything back together.
I used the original quilt back but the binding was not in good shape. So instead I found a green sheet that was almost the exact green used in the original quilt back and cut strips from it.
The quilt layout is 6 x 6 and finished approximately 68" x 68". (Not your usual baby quilt but a size that they can use forever.)
I did my usual straight line quilting design - diagonal lines about 4" apart. Super simple.
So that's about it for now.
And Happy Valentine's Day!
